The inaugural edition of Techcircle Startup Tour, to be held in Kochi on June 16, will bring out emerging trends in the rapidly evolving startup ecosystem in Kerala. Centred on the theme of ‘bridging the investment gap’, participants at the conference will discuss issues like how young startups in Kerala can get the basics right, how to create correct product market fit and how to raise investments beyond seed stage besides focusing on sectors which are gaining traction in Kerala’s startup ecosystem.
Techcircle.in through its startup tour will contribute to this burgeoning ecosystem by bringing together leading angel and VC investors who will provide valuable insights on how entrepreneurs can scale up and go beyond the seed level.
Following are the investors who will be present at the event.
Pradeep Tagare, Investment Director, Intel Capital
Tagare is investment director at Intel Capital India and is responsible for investments in technology-related companies in India and South Asia. His portfolio in India includes companies such as One97 Communications, Hungama.com, Nxtgen Datacenter, healthkart.com and Persistent Systems, among others. Prior to joining Intel Capital India, he was with Intel Capital in Silicon Valley and invested in enterprise software companies.
Natarajan R, MD & CFO, Helion Ventures
With over 26 years of experience in finance and accounting, taxation, planning, sales and marketing and HR, Natarajan has held leadership roles in organisation building, governance and compliance. He is also independent director at GEMS India and Dreams India Schools. Natarajan is an associate member of ICWA and ICSI and a Certified Master Black Belt in Six Sigma by Motorola University. He is secretary and a governing body member of TiE Bangalore and part of TIE SV and the expert team of ISPIRT advising the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) and the government on startup initiatives.
Samir Kumar, Managing Director, Inventus Capital Partners
Kumar is currently the managing director of Inventus Advisory Services India. He has been an early-stage venture investor in India since 2001. Prior to co-founding Inventus, Kumar led the India venture investing team for Acer Technology Ventures where he made early-stage investments in the technology space. Kumar is an active charter member of TiE Bangalore where he has been elected to the governing body for more than five years. He has also been a member of the board of governors of SINE, the technology incubator at IIT Bombay, since January 2013.
Siddhartha Das, General Partner, Ventureast
Das has been a general partner with Ventureast, one of India’s long-standing venture capital institutions investing in pioneering sectors, since 2006. He oversees technology related investments of the Ventureast Proactive Fund. He was also part of Intel Capital and has worked on some of the most successful venture investments in the telecom, consumer internet and software technology sectors. Through his career at Intel Capital, he has been involved in over 40 investments in India, the US and Europe. As head of Intel Capital in South Asia, Das oversaw more than 15 investments resulting in nine exits that established the company as a leading technology investor in the region.
Vipul Mankad, Managing Director, SEAF India Investment Advisor
Mankad is managing director of the SEAF India Agribusiness Fund, a $41.8 million fund investing in small and medium-sized enterprises in India’s agribusiness space. In addition, Mankad serves as a global investment officer with SEAF and a member of SEAF Global Investment Committee. Mankad is an investment professional with over 27 years of experience in raising and managing VC funds through different economic cycles in India. He has led many successful transactions across multiple industry sectors with emphasis on early and growth stage investments.
Srikrishna Ramamoorthy, Partner, Unitus Seed Fund
Ramamoorthy is partner with Unitus Seed Fund. He brings both entrepreneurial and investing perspectives with extensive experience in impact investing and bottom of the pyramid (BoP) startups. Ramamoorthy joined Unitus Seed Fund in 2012 to set up and lead India operations for the fund. With 23 investments to date, Unitus Seed Fund is a leading venture seed fund supporting startups in India.
Ranjith Menon, Executive Director, IDG Ventures
Menon is executive director at IDG Ventures India Advisors. He has been in the industry since 2000 and in the venture investment advisory space since 2007. Prior to joining IDG Ventures, Menon worked with Cyient (earlier Infotech Enterprises), a design engineering and GIS firm where he played a key role in conceptualising and launching new service offerings for the aerospace vertical.
Reihem Roy, Principal, Omnivore Capital
Roy joined Omnivore Partners in December 2012. Previously, he was portfolio manager at Villgro Innovations Foundation where he was responsible for identifying new social enterprises to fund, conducting due diligence on prospective startups and helping portfolio companies scale up. Roy began his career as division strategy consultant (West & Central Africa) at International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).
Sumit Jain, Partner, Kalaari Capital
Jain is a problem solver and a keen student of innovative business models. At Kalaari, Jain evaluates investment opportunities in the area of online products and services, especially in education, financial services and overall consumer services category. He also works closely with portfolio companies, contributing to their growth. Portfolio firms he handles include Industrybuying, Superprofs, Triphobo, Vakil Search, Snapdeal,Robosoft, Magzter, Embibe, Haptik and Simplilearn.
Deepak Gupta, Co-Founder, Equity Crest
Gupta is Co-Founder and CEO of Equity Crest which is a platform for connecting promising young companies with investors to help fulfill their capital needs. Before launching Equity Crest, Gupta was investment director at Intel Capital where he spent eight years driving venture deals. He led investments in companies including Omnesys (acquired by Thomson Reuters), Career Launcher, Tejas Networks and Savaari Car Rentals. More recently he has been an active angel investor with more than a dozen investments to his name.
Krishnan Neelkantan, Senior Director – Investments & Growth Strategy, Ankur Capital
Neelkantan has extensive experience in financial markets and investment research, as well as social development consulting. He spent 17 years in equity markets, starting as an equity research analyst at ICICI Securities and then taking on the roles of market strategist and head of India research at CLSA Asia-Pacific Markets. He then changed tracks to join Samhita Social Ventures as managing director to build up the organisation’s profile as a specialised social consulting firm. Neelkantan remains on the board of Samhita and on the board of mentors for IvyCapital Ventures, and is a patron of Adarsh, a Kochi-based NGO focused on children with disabilities.
